Cape Town & Winelands Tour - 5 Days

DAY 1: Cape Peninsula

On this first day, we visit the entire Cape Peninsula: We visit the lively fisherman's town of Hout Bay, from where we take a boat to Duiker Island, home to more than 6000 “cape fur seals”.
We continue our journey via the world-famous ‘Chapman’s peak’, a spectacular route cut out of the mountain rocks, and enjoy the views over the Atlantic Ocean.
Then it's further via ‘Misty Cliffs’ to Cape Point, the Southern-most tip of the African continent. Hiking - or the little train - takes us to the lighthouse, from where we get another spectacular view on the Atlantic, and further down to the Cape of Good Hope.
Our next stop is Simonstown, home to the Boulders' Penguins. The African Penguin is the smallest variety within the penguin-family, but their funny moves will get you chuckling.
If the weather permits, we end this day on Signal Hill, sipping one of the local wines while looking at the sunset.

DAY 2: Robben Island and City Centre

Any visit to Cape Town should include a visit to Robben Island, officially recognized World Heritage Site, and world-famous as the prison that jailed freedom fighter Nelson Mandela for 27 years. Ex-inmates tell us passionate stories about suffering and heroism, we are introduced to South Africa's racial and violent past, and we enjoy beautiful views of Cape Town.
Back in Cape Town, we visit the Waterfront, and in town, we go and see the Parliament, the Castle, the Gardens, the Bo-Kaap and the District Six Museum.

DAY 3: Township Tour & Kirstenbosh Botanical Gardens (Option 1)

Today we see another side of South Africa. Before lunch we visit the - traditionally black - townships of Gugulethu and Langa. A local guide takes us on a journey through every-day life for the majority of black people in South Africa. We also visit a shebeen (informal pub) and taste umqomboti (home-made beer).
Then it's off to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, to enjoy the natural beauty of the proteas, wild dagga, strelitzia, jacaranda, and many more. We finish the day on the roof of Cape Town, Table Mountain, while looking at the sun sinking into the Atlantic Ocean.

Hermanus & The Whale Route (Option 2)
Seasonal, June – November

We drive over the Franschhoek Mountain Pass to Hermanus. Hermanus is well known as one of the best whale-watching destination in the world. One of the best options is a walk along the coastline at Hermanus, where you’ll get a fabulous cliff-top view of the ‘southern right whales’, as they trawl the clear turquoise water of the Atlantic Ocean. Experience the scenic coastal drive with more spectacular views of False Bay when we drive back to Franschhoek

DAY 4: The Winelands

On this day, our journey takes us to the Cape Winelands. We start in Stellenbosch, South Africa's second-oldest town, and visit the ‘Braak’, ‘Oom Samie Se Winkel’ and other historical buildings. Then, it's over the Helshoogte mountain pass to Boschendal, one of South Africa's most beautiful - and oldest - wine estates.
We taste wine, visit the art gallery, sculpture garden, and get hungry...that is, we hope you do, because we continue our trip to Franschhoek, South Africa's food and wine capital, and home to the country's most exquisite restaurants, wine estates and art galleries. More wine tasting is done at Cabriere Estate - famous for its "Sparkling Wines" and La Motte

DAY 5: Wine, Olives, Chocolate and Cheese Tour

We start the day with an Olive and Wine tasting at Tokara, situated on the crest of the Helshoogte Pass. Apart from award winning architecture, the Estate offers magnificient vistas of the Simonsberg Mountains, False Bay, Table Mountain and the lush Idas Valley.
We drive through the historic wine making town of Stellenbosch to Waterford. The Chocolate and Wine tasting is a unique flavour experience with custom-made chocolates paired with Waterford’s red and dessert wines. Quality and a taste for the best in life are the hallmarks of this successful establishment.
En route you will experience the beautiful scenery of mountains and vines, and our experienced guides will stop at Kanonkop or Warwick for some great wines.
Head for some cheese, we will stop at Anura. This place is the ideal place to sit back, relax and taste some cheese and wine. The knowledgeable staff presents the wines and will help you with the ‘Anura Experience’ – good wines, Brie, Camembert, Danish white and Swiss Mountain Cheese.
Before we drive back to Franschhoek we will drive through Paarl and on to Fairview where we have a Master Wine and Cheese tasting in their private Beryl Back tasting room.
